…and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.  So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper… (Hebrews 13:5-6)

            Sitting in the predawn darkness and heavily feeling the weight of spiritual darkness, I talked to the Lord.  “I need to hear your voice; please speak to me today; help me to hear your lesson today.”

            As the morning sky began to brighten I lifted up my eyes to the beautiful Kangari Hills and from thence came my help – the sunrise.

            Seldom is the sunrise here of any particular beauty.  Usually the sun is hot and high before it is loosed from its shroud of mist and clouds, if we even see it at all.  Yet today it has been glorious though brief; being eagerly swallowed by the waiting clouds.  This was a gentle reminder that the Author of my days is in control.  Should He choose to have the glory of the gold and purple dawn greet me, well.  But how much more do I trust Him  if He should choose the mist and clouds to be my regular fare.

            The eye of faith does not need to see the sun to know it is there; the heart of faith knows the Son is ever near and will not forsake His own.  The lines of a favorite song say it this way:

I could not do without thee, oh Jesus savior dear;
Even when my eyes are holden, I know that thou art near.
How dreary and how lonely, this changeful life would be,
Without the sweet communion, the secret rest with thee.

Lord, I know I believe, yet thank you for helping my occasional unbelief.
